Paola Guigou

Paola Guigou is a maker of images whose power is nourished by her mastery of everything concerning hyper-realistic yet warm imagery. A unique and undefinable texture characterizes her work where nothing is random. Her leitmotiv: a strong image is an image with nothing superfluous. Just one idea, whether a person, and object or simply a light. Paola also photographs artists and works with communications agencies, the press and publishing while giving exhibitions of her artistic work.

The Cactéros series was born in the in the Drôme region of France during a meeting with Alain Mouchel, farmer and cactus/agave specialist. For several days in winter, I observed and photographed these rare plants around the world. I felt privileged to be able to travel to unexplored regions. I quickly forgot the -4 degree temperature in the greenhouse to take advantage of what the contemplation of these plants offered me. They appeared to me to be almost human and terribly sensual and I wanted to translate these feelings into images. Sometimes immense and terrifying, sometimes tiny and fragile, these plants of an ingenious complexity have amazing aesthetic qualities, an inexhaustible source of visual exploration, conducive to dreaming . The photographs are presented here for the first time in the form of these head boards. I like the idea that we come in close contact with them.
